Cookie Policy
Effective date: 5 November 2026 Last updated: 5 November 2026 Version: 1.0
1. What this policy covers
This policy lists every cookie and every item of browser storage this site uses, what each one is for, how long it lasts, and how you control them. It supplements the Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information generally.
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Local storage and session storage are similar stores that stay in your browser and are never sent to a server.
In short: if you never sign in and never use the "Cookie choices" link, we set no cookies at all. We run no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies.
2. Your choices
- Cookie choices. The "Cookie choices" link at the bottom of every page switches the third-party services in section 6 (Google address suggestions, the Google listings map and YouTube videos) and our own cookieless site statistics on or off. They are on until you switch them off; California law asks for a notice and an opt-out, not permission first, and this page with that link is both.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as switching all of them off, without you having to do anything.
- Your browser. You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block the strictly necessary cookies in section 3, you can still read every public page, but you cannot sign in.
3. Strictly necessary (only when you sign in)
These are set only when you sign in or create an account. They keep you signed in and protect the sign-in itself. They track nothing and are not shared with anyone.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
homes.session-token |
Your encrypted session. Without it every page would treat you as a guest. | Up to 30 days, or until you sign out |
homes.csrf-token |
Protects the sign-in and account forms against cross-site request forgery. | Until you close the browser |
homes.callback-url |
Returns you to the page you were on after signing in. | Until you close the browser |
homes.pkce.code_verifier, homes.state, homes.nonce |
Protect a sign-in with Google, Facebook or Apple against interception and replay. Set only if you use one of those buttons. | 15 minutes |
homes_member |
Records only that this browser has signed in here, so the site checks for a session only in browsers that have one. | 30 days, removed when you sign out |
On our live site the first five carry the __Secure- or __Host- prefix (for example
__Secure-homes.session-token), which means the browser sends them only over HTTPS. They are
marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read them.
4. Preferences
These remember a choice you made. They hold nothing about you and are not shared.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
homes_consent |
Your "Cookie choices" setting. Written only when you use that link. | 12 months |
homes_search_of |
Whose home search you are looking at, for a member someone shared their search with. Set only when you choose. | 180 days |
homes_account_nav |
Whether the My Account menu is expanded or collapsed. Signed-in members only. | 12 months |
homes_admin_nav |
The state of the administration menu. Set only for our own staff. | 12 months |
5. Analytics and advertising: none
We set no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no advertising network and no third-party tag manager on this site.
We count visits ourselves without any cookie: a visitor is represented by a code that changes every day, and no IP address is stored. The Privacy Policy (§2) explains exactly what is recorded. You can switch these statistics off under "Cookie choices", and a Global Privacy Control signal switches them off for you.
6. Cookies set by others
Three features load content from Google, and Google may set its own cookies when they do:
| Feature | When | What Google may do |
|---|---|---|
| Address suggestions | When you type in the address field of the address report or Tools › Home value | Set Google's own cookies and see your IP address |
| Listings map | When you choose the "Map" view on our listings | Set Google's own cookies and see your IP address |
| Blog videos | When a blog post has a YouTube video | Nothing until you press play (we use youtube-nocookie.com); after that, YouTube's own cookies |
All three stop when you switch them off under "Cookie choices" or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. Cookies Google has already set belong to Google, not to us, so we cannot delete them for you; your browser's settings can. If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, the pages of that company are governed by its own policies.
7. Other storage in your browser
These items stay in your browser and are never sent to our servers.
| Item | Kind | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
ah-theme |
Local storage | Your light or dark appearance choice |
ah-journey-<guide> |
Local storage | The steps you ticked in an Insider Tips guide |
ah-compare |
Local storage | The towns you checked, and their order, in the neighborhood comparison; the same order lists the towns on the home page and the neighborhoods page |
ah-listings |
Local storage | Your layout, filters and sort order on the listings page |
ah-folders-view |
Local storage | How you chose to show Recommended Properties |
homes_admin_nav |
Local storage | A second copy of the administration menu state (staff only) |
ah-pending-budget |
Session storage | The affordability calculator's numbers while you sign up to save them |
ah-places-refused |
Session storage | That Google refused to suggest addresses, so the field does not ask again |
ah-gate-shown:<lookup> |
Session storage | That the sign-up window already opened for an address report |
Session storage is cleared when you close the tab. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes everything in this section.
If you are signed in, your listings layout, filters and sort order are also saved to your account, as the Privacy Policy explains.
8. Changes
If we add or change a cookie, we will update this page first, and the "Last updated" date above will change.
